Technology Trailblazers: Tsuut’ina Transforms Indigenous Policing

Using Axon’s integrated solutions, including Notes, officers can be more efficient and spend more time in the community

Calgary, AB — To streamline operations and enhance community engagement, the Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service (TNPS) continues to be at the forefront of adopting the latest public safety technologies, including trialing new cutting-edge solutions.

Partnering with Axon, a global leader in law-enforcement technology, TNPS continues to solidify its position as a trailblazer in Indigenous policing, leveraging advanced technology to transform its service delivery. As early adopters of Axon’s cutting-edge innovations—including body-worn cameras (BWCs), drones, and the Axon Evidence platform—TNPS is now expanding its capabilities with the adoption of Axon Notes. This marks the next step in their comprehensive technology transformation, designed to streamline operations and enhance service to the community.

“Our community is at the heart of everything we do,” said Chief Keith Blake of the Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service. “By adopting technologies like Axon Notes, we can ensure our officers are spending more time where they’re needed most—within the community, not behind a desk. This technology will help us to deliver faster, more responsive services and improve our ability to keep our people safe.”

Axon Notes, which will be adopted in October, replaces traditional police notepads with a cloud-based platform that enables faster, more secure note-taking. By integrating this smart solution, TNPS is demonstrating a forward-thinking approach in using cutting-edge technology to meet the unique needs of Indigenous policing.

“Indigenous policing is unique, requiring approaches that respect and reflect the cultural values and traditions of the community. By investing in cutting-edge technology, TNPS is showing its dedication to continuous improvement, officer training, and always striving to serve the Nation better,” said Blake.

For Tsuut’ina Nation residents, the integration of these technologies means faster response times, greater officer presence, and increased transparency in police work. TNPS’s proactive adoption of technology showcases its commitment to modernizing policing while honoring the Nation’s traditions and values.

“Our products are built to enhance the effectiveness of public safety operations while promoting officer safety,” said Director of Sales, Axon Canada Stefan Schurman. “We are honoured to support the TNPS’s leadership, who have shown a commitment to embracing modern technology and driving innovation in policing.”
