Record Suspensions

Obtain court documents for each conviction. These must include:

• The offence

• The sentence

• The court location

• The date of sentencing

Contact the courthouses where your cases were handled.

If you were ordered to pay fines, surcharges, or restitution, you must show proof that all payments are complete. This can include:

• • Official receipts

  • Letters from the court

  • Printouts from a collection agency

If you were convicted under the National Defence Act, request conviction records from National Defence Headquarters.

• You must complete a Local Police Records Check for every community you've lived in during the past 10 years.

  • Fee is $50

  • For other locations, contact the appropriate police agency to confirm costs and procedures.

If you have a conviction for a Schedule 1 offence (often related to sexual offences), you are not eligible for a record suspension unless granted an exception.

To apply for this exception:

• Fill out the Schedule 1 Exception Form

• Provide a written statement and evidence that you do not pose a risk to reoffend

Submit clear copies of two pieces of valid government-issued ID. At least one must show your date of birth.

Accepted IDs include:

• • Driver’s licence

  • Passport

  • Birth certificate

  • Provincial/territorial health card

You can now fill out the official Record Suspension Application Form. Be sure to:

• • Answer all questions completely and truthfully

  • Include all supporting documents

  • Review everything carefully before moving on

In some cases (especially Schedule 1 applications or discretionary reviews), you must also complete the Measurable Benefit and/or Sustained Rehabilitation Form.

• How a record suspension would improve your life

• How you've shown rehabilitation and good conduct
