The Tsuut'ina Nation Police Service (TNPS) is pleased to be hosting Reframing Our Relationships with Indigenous Communities.  This two-day event is dedicated to developing a greater understanding of Canada's true shared history. The conference will examine the ongoing effects of colonization, intergenerational trauma, and discriminatory legislation, along with how these historical realities continue to shape the present experience in the justice system.  We’ll explore how current-day challenges are connected to historical injustices, and how reconciliation requires both knowledge and meaningful action.

This event brings together leaders of the police, professionals in justice, educators, and community members to reflect on how greater knowledge of the past could inform a brighter future. Through learning and dialogue, Reframing Our Relationships seeks to enhance participants' knowledge of Canada's shared history and build respectful, trust-based relationships between communities and institutions.

This conference is directly in line with Call to Action #57 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, where governments and public institutions are urged to provide education to public servants on Indigenous Peoples' history, such as residential schools, treaties, Indigenous law, and intercultural competency. These sessions are designed to help attendees to develop their knowledge of Indigenous rights, increase cultural awareness, and implement reconciliation principles into their daily work and decision-making.

Reframing Our Relationships with Indigenous Communities is TNPS's ongoing commitment to reconciliation and education.

Sessions and discussion will include:

  • Understanding history and current impacts on Indigenous peoples
  • Enhancing police, justice system, and community relationships
  • Learning from Indigenous-led community safety, wellness, and reconciliation approaches
