Collision Reporting
??
You can now report some collisions online?
In Alberta, motor vehicle collisions must be reported to police when the total damage appears to be more than $5,000.
This amount is the combined damage to all vehicles and property involved, not just your own vehicle.
If you are unsure whether the damage is above or below $5,000, report the collision anyway. Damage often costs more than it looks, especially once parts, labour, and hidden damage are assessed.
Reporting a collision does not automatically mean you are at fault. It simply ensures the collision is documented properly for safety, insurance, and legal reasons.
Failing to report a collision that should have been reported can result in fines or other consequences under Alberta law.
When in doubt, report it.
